Originating in the mid-1970s, Wanbli Ho Journal provides an opportunity for both local and nationally-known creatives to showcase their talents and share their abundant backgrounds of experience and vision so uniquely inherent within the Native American/BIPOC artist and communities. Prioritizing Indigenous voice and worldview, Wanbli Ho is calling the names and spirits of The People home, to sound in unity and in power. We operate in the knowledge that we are all related and all responsible for the world and reality we co-create. Wopila.

Wanbli Ho Journal accepts submissions of previously unpublished micro-flash, flash, short fiction, novel excerpts, short plays, scholarly essays, reviews, memoir, creative non-fiction, poetry, hybrid work, visual art, and short films. We especially encourage translations from or to languages Indigenous to the Americas.

Our journal is currently set to publish bi-annually in the Fall and Spring Semesters, though special issues may infiltrate that schedule. We publish in print and online. Each accepted author/artist can expect payment in the form of two free copies of the journal as well a a year’s subscription for free.

All submissions must be accompanied by a cover letter, a short bio, and a listing of any social media handles and/or personal websites that you would like us to feature if your submission is accepted for publication.

Please submit 3-5 poems in a single submission. Please limit prose submission length to 5,000-6,000 words. We accept 72 dpi GIF, JPEG, PNG, or TIFF files for visual art submissions. For short films, please submit work that is no more than 5 minutes in duration, with a MOV or MP4 format, and a resolution of at least 1080p.

We know good work when we see it. It will speak to us, and we will want to share it. We don’t want to dictate to you what “good” means, so just send us what you think is important to share with us and the world. Please do not send AI-generated work; we will not be publishing that. Pilamayaye.
